Kansai International Academy aims to develop creative and responsible leaders who can contribute to a global society through inquiry-based Japanese-English bilingual education. With this goal in mind, we aim to have our students learn and inquire by themselves as well as in a group and develop the ability to solve problems with their creativity and cultivate the understanding of different cultures.
What we expect of our students
Taking these policies into consideration, we accept applications from students from around the world, who can have the following academic achievement and nature and are ambitious for developing them.
- The student understands and is willing to commit to Kansai International Academy.
- The student has an intellectual curiosity and aptitude for learning.
- The student desires to communicate effectively in all situations.
- The student is able to respect different cultures and ways of thinking and is able to work together to contribute to society.
- The student has general knowledge in social and natural sciences as well as basic academic achievement of their mother tongue and English.
Kansai International Academy does not discriminate against any individual on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, nationality or ethnic origin in its education or admission policies. In order to fulfill the mission of the school, an applicant’s linguistic background and academic ability may be considered in the admission process.
Kansai International Academy is a day school and not a boarding school. Therefore, students must live with a parent, adult family member, or legal guardian within commuting distance of the school
- Parent Communication
Staff and teachers at Kansai International Academy communicate with parents/guardians in Japanese and English languages as a base. If needs arise in the future, Kansai International Academy will consider supporting the parent communication.
- Learning Needs:
Learning needs of the student, such as English and/or Japanese proficiency, physical, emotional, social and behavioral challenges can be provided with student support services within the ability of KIA.
After evaluation amongst the admissions, there are cases that KIA offer acceptance with conditions in order to better determine the needs of the students and our ability to meet them promptly and sustainably.
KIA cannot accommodate those students by modifying the curriculum, assessment, learning expectations and outcomes, and the school facility that exceeds the ability of the school and the personnel. In some cases, additional fees are required to arrange some internal and all external support, including KIA contractors, to meet those needs.
- Special Needs
Kansai International Academy (KIA) strives to provide learning opportunities for all students, but it is not fully “barrier-free” in its facility.
KIA operates by the tuition and fees without any government subsidies, and strives to admit only students whom we are able to successfully provide the support. Disclosure of essential information enables the admissions team and the prospective teaching teams to determine whether we are able to sustain the necessary support throughout the years that the student learns at KIA. Without disclosure of such information, the partnership among the school, the family, and the support team/agency can be inhibited. In order for KIA to provide the student with as much support as possible, family cooperation is essential.
The ultimate goal of our grade placement policy is to ensure the quality and consistency of the educational program and to place students in the grade that best suits their academic and social development. As a general rule, placement decisions are based on the age of the student as of April 1st of the academic year of enrollment. ＊The grade for students born on April 1 is one grade higher than the grade for students born on or after April 2, and one grade consists of students born on April 2 and students born on April 1 of the following year（Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, n.d., “About the grade for students who were born on April 1st” section).
Admission to the Early Learning Center, Kindergarten, Elementary, and Secondary School will be conducted in accordance with the admission guidelines established by each division based on the above policies.
